SOUNDTRACK is your one-hour red carpet ride to the marvellous music of movies and television. We’ll give you the inside scoop on the songs, and feature the films and TV productions in which they were played – we’ll also catch up when we can to the songwriters, composers, producers, directors and music supervisors attached to the tunes, and of course, we’ll enjoy the songs themselves. As you might imagine with the hundreds of thousands of TV shows and movies made over the years, the scope for SOUNDTRACK is massive – so we’ll give each episode an area of focus and shine the spotlight on that – AND for this show, it’s all about the sequel! Those cinematic next chapters – the film follow-ups as it were – some completely warranted – others maybe just maybe one picture too far, but always with an ear open for the music that plays amidst the much anticipated action. And just like the wide array of big screen returns our music selection runs the gamut – from rock and roll classics to original ballads, recurring theme songs to Oscar-winning chart-toppers, from heartfelt title tracks to heart-rate-rising dance tunes. Indeed, we’ve got it all going – musically that is. When it comes to their respective sequels, that’s up for debate. I mean YES as far as being true to Oxford’s definition of a sequel – that being “a published, broadcast, or recorded work that continues the story or develops the theme of an earlier one” – they all do that! Whether or not they do it well, or whether they should have done it at all – the answer varies, but then really, who are we to judge? We’re just here to celebrate the songs, and so we shall!
