The Beauty of a Blank Slate

I knew the day would come – but I won’t pretend I was fully prepared for the moment The Sidekick said “I really don’t want pink walls in my room anymore.”

It seemed like just a blink ago she was all about the fuchsia and the sparkles and the unicorns.

Fair enough I thought and then – as any mom/decorator for hire I steeled myself and asked “What colour would you like to it be?”

“White” she said without hesitation – and while I resisted the urge to rhyme off the hundreds of variations of white on the commercial market today – I instead gave pause and stared blankly (no pun intended) at the 4 walls and the 4000 pink things that would soon need to go.

After the shock and awful purge of it all – the white walls gave way to a clean slate and after settling on champagne pink and gold as our accent colours – I got to work on pulling the look together yes #onabudget!

New window treatments and bedding – which for the record did imbue the room with a lovely rosé glow.

And those unicorns were replaced by llamas (we both llove llamas so!). I found an old dresser with a spectacular mirror that just needed painting. I changed/replaced all the pulls to update and coordinate with the new colour scheme. I have to admit it was a wonderful update – and when i finally had it finished and I was tucking her in that night in her newly minted space do you know what she said?! “Now that the walls are white we can change the decor with every season – for Christmas and spring and….”

“I just finished getting it to look like this” I said hurrying out of the room “Good night!” But in my mind I thought “Good idea!!!” and so when our favourite season of Christmas rolled around those white walls made way for the merriest of make-overs.

Ahhhhhh…. the beauty of a blank slate!
