It’s been a long time coming, but we’re happy to report A FIRE IN THE COLD SEASON is finally set for release!
Described as “a whisper through sprawling forests and highway towns, carved from the landscapes of Newfoundland,” the Western-Noir feature from filmmaker Justin Oakey will be available on VOD across Canada this on Friday, October 2, 2020. And if you’re lucky enough to live in Newfoundland you’ll be pleased to know there will also be select screenings a the Cineplex Cinemas in Mount Pearl, NL.

We had the great pleasure of catching up with Mr.Oakey in Halifax last September, when A FIRE IN THE COLD SEASON made its world premiere at the 2019 FIN Atlantic International Film Festival. Fortunate to be the moderator for the Director’s Guild of Canada’s panel where Justin was joined by fellow Newfoundlander Melanie Oates (BODY & BONES) and Nova Scotia’s Heather Young (MURMUR) pictured below. It was truly great to gain some insight into this visually haunting crime thriller along with his process for production and his great love of the homeland.
We had a great chance to chat with filmmaker Justin Oakey on SEA AND BE SCENE… And HEARD – just click here for that, and be sure to check out the trailer and stream/screen A FIRE IN THE COLD SEASON as soon as you’re able!
