The Duds “Til We Run”

The Duds release new single We Run

Official Release – The Duds “Til We Run”

The Duds are Melanie O’Brien and Philip Goodridge, two artists in St. John’s, Newfoundland who have been working together for the past ten years. After touring Atlantic Canada together in 2019 they released their debut album, “These Words I Can’t Forget” in March 2020. The Duds were subsequently nominated for two MusicNL awards: Bell Aliant Pop Artist of the Year and MDIIO Rising Star of the Year. Produced by award-winning producer/songwriter/filmmaker Ian Foster, the record combined The Duds’ folk-tinged roots sound with bright pop beats, resulting in something elevated, elemental, spicy-sweet and fully their own.

Separately, Melanie and Philip have each carved out their own paths in the music industry. O’Brien’s debut solo album “Shining in The Blue” earned her three MusicNL Award nominations in 2017, as a vocal coach she holds the 2017 MusicNL Award for Long & McQuade Music Educator of the Year. Goodridge is a multi-faceted artist and a seasoned professional theatrical performer, working in Newfoundland for over 20 years. Together, The Duds are versatile, playful-yet-confessional, upbeat-yet-balladeers ‒ they’re undeniably meant to be on stage.

Not slowing down in isolation, The Duds found creative ways to continue to promote their album by releasing spirited and comedic music videos for their song, “Keep This Up” and fun versions of familiar cover songs on their social media account. Melanie and Philip also used the time to write and – thanks to the City of St. John’s arts funding – they have a brand new single, “Til We Run” available on all streaming platforms. LISTEN HERE.

This new single is a song about perseverance, momentum, and resilience with a clear connection and a hopeful evolution to the emotional pursuits touched on in their first album. It’s a song of determination, of drive that demands we pick up the pieces, reshape our view, and boldly go forward regardless if the end result is success or failure.

The Duds chose Ian Foster to produce this song once again as the three artists have a developed a creative bond that challenges, greets, and expands each of their individual talents; resulting in a song with a magnetic dance beat and vocal highlights that lift and inspire.

“The thing I love about The Duds is that they’re always evolving their sound,” said producer Ian Foster, “When they came to me with this single, it was piano and voices but with the goal of making it a big anthem. Their love of 80s sounds steered us further in the direction of building the track to its final form. Its ballad meets dance floor, meaningful AND fun.”

The Duds are currently working as resident artists with Terra Bruce Productions as well as in studio recording a collection of original holiday music. Stay tuned!
