Christmas Day On Planet Earth – Lennie Gallant

Lennie Gallant Feature Christmas Day on Planet Earth

Official Release

Storied Canadian songwriter Lennie Gallant returns with Christmas Day On Planet Earth. A collection of new, original music to celebrate the holiday season, the album (out November 12) also pays homage to the troubles and trials of our fragile blue planet in several hopeful songs.

There are very few silver linings to COVID-19, but one was creating that precious time for artists who went from non-stop touring to a complete standstill overnight. Christmas Day On Planet Earth is the product of a spring and summer spent writing and in studio.

This album ranks with my very best work and the reaction from the folks who’ve heard pre-release cuts has been over the top,” said Gallant (he/him). “It was a lot of fun to make and I can’t wait for people to hear it!”

Christmas Day On Planet Earth is a unique collection of original songs with a global perspective about our much-celebrated holiday, while keeping in mind that it’s a day for love, kindness and loads of fun! The album features a number of guest artists including vocalist Patricia Richard and the fabulous Zimbabwe acapella group Black Umfolosi who perform on the title track. The album was helmed by Juno Award-winning producer Les Cooper (Jill Barber, Madison Violet, David Myles, Meaghan Smith).

“It was a blast making this album,” Gallant said. “We wanted each song to have a character and sound of its own to really take us on an audio trip to various parts of the world. I’m extremely impressed with the level of musicianship on the record. I think Les brought out one of my best ever vocal performances on a record as well!”

Christmas Day On Planet Earth takes you on a journey to various Christmas locations around the world, from Southern Africa with the title song, to Paris for a street waltz, the Middle East, Motown, and an East Coast Kitchen gathering and a hospital ward on Christmas Eve. The touching track “The Gift” is an incredibly poignant song for what the world is going through. Not to leave anyone out, Gallant even has a song for those out there who may want to give the holiday season a pass, with the hilarious “I’m Gonna Have A Merry Christmas Even If It Kills Me!”

“It was quite an interesting exercise in songwriting, creating Christmas songs in July and August, but I think we hit the mark. I can’t wait to play these songs live on our tour,” Gallant said. “Take care of yourself out there.”
