Our chats will be just that very conversational, not entirely sensible and with any luck totally enjoyable… and I’m here to tell you, today’s show is an action-packed one to be sure of it. And how truly apropos – as we’re shining the spotlight on one of Nova Scotia’s much beloved and world-renowned action-packed events – Chester Race Week. The spectacularly storied, annual regatta has been on the go since the mid 1800’s, building stature amongst competitive sailors and sailing fans alike and with it, incredible international attention for its host location – the Chester Yacht Club and the sweet Seaside Village in which it resides. And so with Chester Race Week 2023 set to sail August 16th through to the 19^th we’re here to get the inside scoop on the lot of it – including all the details on this year’s festivities with Media Officer Tara Wickwire – who’ll tell us how we can take in the all the action both on the water and at the Yacht Club too. Plus we’ll connect with the South Shore Tourism Cooperative’s Stephanie Miller Vincent to hear about their amazing MORE ON THE SHORE EVENT featuring their brand new SHOWCASE MARKET happening on the Saturday of Race Week. It’s filled with lots of vendors, great entertainment, contests, yummy food and more! But first we’ll connect with David Creighton – a long time lover of sailing, a fierce competitor and Chester Yacht Club member too – to get the remarkable history behind Chester Race Week and of course the yacht club itself. In fact the club is where we caught up to Mr. Creighton this past holiday Monday – and as luck would have it – our sit-down on the deck collided with the youth sailing program that had just come ashore for their lunch break. Their exuberance for sailing (and snacks) provided a rather enthusiastic soundtrack for our conversation. Good stuff though as it’ll give you just a smidge of the background sounds you’ll be hearing during this year’s thrilling week of racing.
