Broadcast Date – September 6, 2023
So thrilled to welcome you back for our 6th season of celebrating 4 Atlantic Provinces here on COVE FM – where with each broadcast I want to bring you closer to some of the amazing personalities that make up this corner of the planet – they might be native to Nova Scotia or New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island or Newfoundland & Labrador – or they may be kindred spirits who simply adore living and working in Atlantic Canada . The only requirement here is that you’re willing to raise the fun flag and wave it in salute of Canada’s Awesome East Coast.
Now if you’ve been following my adventures with SEA AND BE SCENE over the past 13 years – through all our website features, red carpet interviews, TV specials and radio broadcasts – then you know how much we adore the ATLANTIC INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL. That wonderful week when awesome actors, fantastic filmmakers and industry shakers hunker down in Halifax to celebrate cinema. This year’s festival is set to run from September 14th through the 21st and with all that movie magic now just days away we wanted to bring you the inside scoop on what’s in store for AIFF2023. We’ll connect with the festivals Director of Programming Lisa Haller to talk about the amazing lineup of films set to screen, including the outstanding offering from right here in the homeland and get the rundown on their truly righteous gala presentations. Hey, and on that topic coming up later in the show we’ll be chatting with a SEA AND BE SCENE SUPERSTAR – Award-Winning and wonderful Christian Sparkes whose forthcoming feature SWEETLAND holds the honour of this year’s ATLANTIC GALA presentation. But first we’ll connect with the Executive Director of the Atlantic International Film Festival Martha Cooley. We’ve had the opportunity to cross paths at industry events but this will be our first time having her on the show and we couldn’t be happier or more impressed with her career that includes helming the Atlantic Filmmakers Cooperative, the Halifax Independent Film Festival, a founding board member of downtown Halifax’s Light House Arts Centre, the board of Women in Film and Television-Atlantic and Screen Nova Scotia Independent Media Arts Alliance. Amazing right?! Also amazing – that she has a minute to spare to chat with us amidst all the forthcoming film festival frenzy. So without further ado, here’s my telephone conversation with Martha Cooley in which I waste no time getting down to business. (you’ll find the player at the bottom of this post)
