Broadcast Date – June 12, 2024
Our chats will be just that very conversational, not entirely sensible and with any luck totally enjoyable… and I gotta say I feel like today’s call was a long time comin’ but so completely worth the wait. And while it’s been well over a decade and half since we shared the same newsroom in Ottawa – chatting with him for the show – it truly felt like not a day had passed. Now I’ll grant you that may have something to do with the fact that I’ve been watching his stellar sports coverage ever since – from colour commentary to live broadcasts and special reports on every sport from Super Bowl Sundays to Wimbledon’s centre court, Hockey Night in Canada to World Series baseball – he has covered it all. In fact, he graciously carved out a smidge of time for out little show during a crazy busy day in Boston just prior to his broadcast from game one of the NBA finals between the Celtics and the Dallas Mavericks – so yeah, we’ll be chatting about all of that and so much more – including his first foray into journalism with his local paper in Truro, to how he makes interviewing amidst the mayhem of a championship game look so easy to the wonderful Canadian Olympian story had him back in the homeland just last week. We’ll also get to 1st Things First, score a ton of inside intel with BEST OF TIMES, WORST OF TIMES, play a long overdue round of INsights IN 10 and even spins some of his favourite tunes along the way. So with all that ahead we best get to it. Here’s my telephone conversation with the one and only Arash Madani.
