It was such a treat catching up with todayβs guest β award-winning New Brunswick-born filmmaker Jana Stackhouse. Now faithful SEA AND BE SCENE…and HEARD listeners might just remember that name because Jana popped in for a super fast chat with us back in January when her truly moving short AWAY HOME had been selected for a very cool film festival hosted by TIFF called Canada’s Top Ten Film Festival. It was then that Ms. Stackhouse promised to come back for a full hour and today sheβs making good on that promise and with plenty to chat about. The web series NOTE TO SELF which she directs for CBC Comedy was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award for Best Web Program or Series – Fiction and was also renewed for a season 2 with episodes streaming now (watch here). Here film AWAY HOME starring Cape Bretonβs Billy MacLellan and New Brunswick native Peter McNeill was selected for the Hollywood North Film Festival where it won best student film and Jana won Best Female Director. It’s also screened at festivals in Montreal and Toronto and was recently selected to screen this month at the Regina International Film Festival. AND we can tell you that Jana is in the midst of developing another web series and writing her first feature film. So weβll talk about that and so much more β including her deep appreciation of Willie Nelson, her great love of Christmas movies and whether or not weβll ever see her on a future season of Dancing with the Stars. So without further ado β hereβs my telephone conversation with the one and only Jana Stackhouse!
