When it comes to mainland Nova Scotia – it’s hard to find a more awesome and easterly point than Canso, Nova Scotia.

Historically the oldest fishing port on Mainland North America – but ever since 1997 the tiny community has held a different title – that of HOME to the award-winning Stan Rogers International Folk Festival. This year is set to roll Thursday, July 25th through Sunday, July 28

Yes, the cool kids call it Stanfest and every year thousands and thousands of music lovers from all around the world arrive to experience 4 incredible days packed with entertainment. From main stage performances to musical workshops and more – all in celebration of the songwriter – yes, in tribute to the man who’s billed in the title – but also in an effort to spotlight a wealth of songwriters across a myriad of genres – from legends to new artists – everyone loves playing Stanfest.

Their 23 years have included everyone from Grammy Hall-of-Famer Don McLean, to Woodstock legend Richie Havens, Academy/Golden Globe Winning Canadian Hall of Famer Buffy Saint Marie, to Grammy great Nanci Griffith and the list goes on and on. And this year’s lineup with over 30 artists featuring everyone from Grammy Winning Suzanne Vega, to Polaris and Juno-winning Jeremy Dutcher to the Mega Award Winning Bruce Guthro is no exception…. in fact, the only notable exception is the exceptional young man at the helm.

Now with more than two decades of Stanfest experience, you can hardly call Chris Greencorn a newcomer – so it’s no wonder his father Troy Greencorn had complete confidence in passing the mantle of Artist Director over to his eldest son Chris and it’s no surprise he’s put together a spectacular 2019 program. So we’ll talk to Chris about his new role, all that on-the-job training, and the storied history behind the festival. We’ll also spotlight the artists, run through the awesome agenda and squeeze in a fast round of first things first. So without further ado here’s my sitdown conversation with the one and only Chris Greencorn.
