One lovely spot right here on Nova Scotia’s South Shore is the Chester Playhouse Theatre. I’m a huge fan of all they do and was so thrilled to co-host the CHESTER PLAYHOUSE RADIO SHOW with their former General Manager Roma Dingwell last summer. It was 9 weeks of awesome music and general merriment right here on #CoveFM. Now if you tuned in then you’d know times were tricky. The Playhouse, like most performance venues around the world, was dark due to covid and doing all they could to keep folks engaged… virtually and otherwise. On top of that the theatre itself was about to embark on a massive renovation and re-imagination. Matter of fact last fall and all through the winter and into the spring too they did just that. And in February they hired a new Executive Director, Andrew Chandler to lead the charge. Oh, it was going to be a ‘Brand New Day’ for the beloved Seaside Theatre. That was until June 11th… when a fire wiped out all their wonderful work. As a resident of the Village of Chester I can tell you it was a crushing day to be sure of it, but with great gratitude to the incredible contingent of first responders – like 19 fire trucks and countless firefighters – the flames were contained and no one was hurt. AND armed with their ‘show must go on’ spirit the Chester Playhouse team has put together a stellar summer season entitled PLAYHOUSE WITHOUT WALLS. So we’ll get the scoop on all of that and so much more including the lovely list of village venues that’ll host the live performances, plus we’ll learn a little more about the man who’s at the helm for this new adventure, and spin some of his favourite tunes along the way. So with all that ahead we best get to it. Here’s my sit-down chat with the Chester Playhouse Theatre’s own Andrew Chandler.
