Newfoundland-born/Ontario-based John Michael Swinimer is the publisher and editor-in-chief of the award-winning True North Country Comics Podcast. Created nearly 6 years ago with one goal in mind — to promote Canadian comic book and graphic novel creators and supporters.
Growing up in Canada’s Atlantic provinces, Swinimer discovered the world of comic books by visiting the local general store after grade school always checking out the spinner racks, building up a wishlist and then using his weekly 25-cent allowance to buy one of the colourful superhero comic books. Usually, it was Batman or Superman sometimes even Spider-Man.
It wasn’t until many years later, during a family visit to Ontario that he came upon a comic book shop in Toronto called Cerebus the Aardvark. It was there that he realized that comic books were also made in Canada and thus began his journey of discovery of all things Canadian comic books and the incredible creators behind them.
