Our chats will be just that very conversational, not entirely sensible and with any luck totally enjoyable… And I gotta tell ya – after waiting the better part of decade to connect – it was way beyond the best to finally meet up for a sit down with this award-winning and wonderful Newfoundland-born, BC-based actress. Who as luck would have it was in Halifax this past weekend for the GALA screening of her remarkable new film SWEETLAND at this year’s Atlantic International Film Festival. Her moving portrayal of Clara in Christian Sparkes hauntingly poignant story of “an endangered Newfoundland community and the struggles of one man determined to resist its extinction” is another in a long list of lovely performances that includes everything from the CW smash THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and CTV’s marvellous medical drama REMEDY to the EMMY nominated Netflix original A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS to name just a few. She’s been in plenty of big screen works as well like the Academy award nominated film WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES and the forth coming feature THE BURNING SEASON. So we’ll talk about all of that and so much more – including all those fantastically festive made-for-TV movies in which she’s starred and where she really stands on celebrating the season. Plus we’ll learn why she considers working on SWEETLAND an absolute dream come true. We’ll also get to 1st Things First, play a longer than long overdue round of INsights IN 10 and even spin her favourite soundtrack tune while were at it. So with all that ahead we best get to it. Here now – amidst the hub bub of all the film festival folks at the Lord Nelson Hotel in Halifax – is festival my sit down conversation with the one and only Sara Canning.
