SOUNDTRACK is your one hour red carpet ride to the marvellous music of movies and television. Will give you the inside scoop on the songs, and feature the films and TV productions in which they were played – we’ll also catch up when we can to the songwriters, composers, producers, directors and music supervisors attached to the tunes and of course we’ll enjoy the songs themselves. Now, as you might imagine with hundreds of thousands of TV shows and movies made over the years the scope for SOUNDTRACK is massive – so we’ll give each episode an area of focus and shine the spotlight on that. And for this show we’re shining the spotlight on a truly patriotic occasion – NATIONAL CANADIAN FILM DAY!!! On this day April 16th, 2025, theatres all across this great country will be screening movies made right here in Canada and thanks to REEL CANADA, a charitable organization dedicated to introducing Canadians to the power and diversity of Canadian film, you can watch an amazing assortment of Canadian films for FREE!!! That’s right, in hundreds of cinemas and schools, retirement residences and libraries, community centres and museums and lots and lots of other locations – on this very day – you can watch incredible Canadian productions FOR free. So if that’s not a reason to celebrate, I don’t know what is. Now I’ll grant you with a couple hundred screenings on the go and only 1 hour allotted to the show narrowing down the tremendous tunes to spin has been tricky but rest assured we’ve got something for everyone – from moving folk to indie rock, sweeping scores to dance hit disco even a couple of tunes from Canadian recording royalty – oh it’s a cornucopia alright and I can’t wait to take you through it!
***I reference interviews with film stars throughout the broadcast to view those just click on their name – Goron Pinsent, Percy Hynes White, Mark Critch and Don McKellar.
