Our chats will be just that, very conversational, not entirely sensible and with any luck totally enjoyable. And what an absolute delight it was to connect with today’s guest, who’s following up her award-winning big screen debut with another command performance in the 2026 retelling of the 1986 classic YOUNGBLOOD. Set to roll into theatres across the country this Friday, March 6th. The new movie, like the original, revolves around a fiery young hockey player who’s determined to make it despite his demons and his dad. A fresh turn in this new take is handled by our guest today, who takes on the role of romantic interest Jessie Chadwick with the added dimension of also being a goalie with goals of her own. We’ll talk about how tremendous talent, coupled with her sporty skills, ticked every box to book the gig and so much more! Including how it felt to be one of so few women in the feature and how her on-screen dad, played by NL’s Shawn Doyle, made her feel like a real-life daughter. We’ll also flashback to her first feature NIGHT BLOOMS, with fond words from the director Stephanie Joline and discuss the passion she put into her ACTRA Award-winning performance. Plus, we’ll hear about her growing up on Prince Edward Island, discover how she got started in the business, get her advice for aspiring actors, and learn about what she’s working on next. We’ll also get to 1st THINGS FIRST, play an enlightening round of INsights IN 10 and even spin some of her favourite tunes along the way. So with all that ahead, we best get to it. Here’s my telephone conversation with the one and only Alexandra McDonald. (You can find the player at the bottom of the post)
