SOUNDTRACK is your one hour red carpet ride to the marvellous music of movies and television. We’ll give you the inside scoop on the songs, and feature the films and tv productions in which they were played – we’ll also where we can share the background on the songwriters, composers, producers, directors and music supervisors attached to the tunes and of course we’ll enjoy the songs themselves. Now – As you might imagine with the hundreds of thousands of TV shows and movies made over the years the scope for SOUNDTRACK is massive – so we’ll give each episode an area of focus and shine the spotlight on that – and since we’re amidst the most magical time of the year for Hollywood – AWARD’S SEASON – we’re shining our spotlight OSCAR WINNING – BEST ORIGINAL SONGS. Now for the record the Academy’s rules stipulate that “an original song consists of words and music, both of which are original and written specifically for the motion picture. There must be a clearly audible, intelligible, substantive rendition (not necessarily visually presented) of both lyric and melody, used in the body of the motion picture or as the first music cue in the end credits.”
And since the category for Best Original Song was introduced back in 1934 – you best believe we’ll be covering a lot of movie history and a full on cornucopia of musical genres. Everything from chart topping pop hits to music history firsts to tunes that would become signatures songs for their now legendary singers. From romantic classics, to rap smashes, inspirational anthems to motivational messages – our assortment of Academy Award Winning Originals really runs the gamut so let’s get right into with the first of only two songs in our show – and in music history for that matter – to have won all three major awards (the Oscar, the Golden Globe, and the Grammy) while being composed and written, as well as performed, entirely by a single artist.
